Lesson 3 Internet
Netscape is a web browser that allows you to view the World Wide Web. It is a graphical browser which means that you can point and click with the mouse on highlighted words or pictures to navigate to different pages. Words that are underlined are called hyperlinks because they will link you to another location on the Internet.
Back and Forward ButtonsBack and Forward buttons are the "page turners" of Netscape. Like your own fingers turning a page in a book, back and forward allow the user to move back and forward through the documents which you have viewed. Below is an example of how Back and Forward are used together.HomeHome takes the user back to the preset Home Page. It is a good place to go should you run across an inappropriate web site.StopThe Stop Button will help the user stop the transfer of the page. Some pages load slowly because of the graphics on the page. Using the stop button allows the user to interrupt the loading of a page. You can stop a transfer only while it is in progress. If the Stop button is inactive, the Web page has been completely loaded therefore, you cannot stop the transfer.GoClick Go on the toolbar to view a history list of web sites that have been visited recently. The history list starts out empty every time you start Netscape. Using the Back and Forward buttons on the toolbar allows the user to move quickly through the history list or the user can click Go to view the list. Another way to view the history list is to click and hold the mouse button down on the Back or Forward button.BookmarksA bookmark allows the user to save the web site and recall that site for future use. Click the Bookmark button and then Add Bookmark. Users can organize bookmarks in folders by clicking the Bookmark button and then File Bookmark. The browser will let you choose which folder the bookmark can be filed.Keyword SearchThe search engine uses keywords to search an index of Web resources. Some common search engines are listed below. You can search for information in terms of what you want instead of where it is located on the web.
The Print button is useful when the user wants to get a copy of the information on the site. If the site is large or the user only needs some of the information, use the copy and paste buttons. The information can be pasted into any word processing documents.ReloadUse the Reload button to view the web site should it not load properly.Source: Parkland College
